Zhu Wenyi, born in May 1963, received his bachelor's degree in architecture, master's degree and doctorate degree in urban planning from Tsinghua University in 1985, 1988 and 1993, respectively.
From May 1993 to May 2023, he taught at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University and retired in June 2023.
